Street Division, Diseased Tree Ordinance

The Public Works Department’s Streets Division plants and maintains trees in City parkways, parks, and other public areas. When those trees become diseased or infested with parasitic insects, it is City policy to remove or dispose of the dying tree to prevent the spread of the disease or insect to adjacent foliage. Similarly, it is the property owner’s responsibility to care for trees on private property. When private trees become diseased by Dutch Elm Disease or Emerald Ash Borers, Crystal Lake’s Diseased Tree Ordinance outlines the responsibility of the property owner to properly dispose of the infected tree. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the Public Works Department.
