The Crystal Lake Police Department participates in the McHenry County "A Way Out" program. The program offers substance abuse treatment 24/7 to anyone in McHenry County that wishes to seek recovery. Interested persons may enter our lobby and notify the clerks at the window (or the dispatcher by the phone provided outside our lobby if after business hours) and request to participant in the program. A police officer will be assigned to assist those interested, helping complete the necessary paperwork. Qualified persons will then be transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock for an evaluation. Health insurance is not required.
Participants are required to turn over to police any drugs or contraband in their possession. In most cases, the participants will not be arrested or charged for possessing any unlawful substances; however, depending on the quantity of narcotics and/or other investigative information, the police department retains the discretion to arrest and charge if appropriate. A person cannot participate in this program if they currently have an active warrant for their arrest or they are using it as a means to avoid prosecution of other criminal charges.
The Crystal Lake Police Department restricts participation to McHenry County residents only. We will help non-McHenry County residents desiring to participate by facilitating a connection with another law enforcement agency without such a restriction.
